Etsy's March 2026 search update (internally called "Relevancy 3") completely reweighted how titles, tags, and attributes affect ranking. If your visits dropped 30–50% in April, you're not alone — and the fix is almost always the same.

What changed

• Exact-match phrases in titles now outweigh keyword stuffing by ~3×.
• Tag relevance matters more than tag uniqueness — all 13 tags should orbit the same buyer intent.
• Attributes (occasion, recipient, style) are now a hard filter, not a soft signal. Missing attributes = excluded from filtered searches.
• CSAT signals (review rate, message response time) feed into ranking, not just shop quality.

The new title formula

Lead with a 2–4 word exact phrase a buyer would type. Then a clarifier. Then occasion or recipient. Example:

"Personalized Dog Mom Mug | Custom Pet Portrait | Mother's Day Gift for Dog Lovers"

Pipes (|) are fine. Don't waste characters on "Best", "Handmade", or "Unique" — Etsy's already filtering for those.

Tag strategy that ranks in 2026

• 4–5 tags = exact long-tail phrases (3+ words).
• 4–5 tags = buyer-intent variations of your main keyword.
• 3–4 tags = occasion + recipient combos ("teacher gift", "mom birthday").
• Never duplicate single words across tags — Etsy now penalizes this.

What to stop doing

• Single-word tags ("mug", "gift") — wasted slot.
• Repeating your shop name in titles — Etsy strips it from search weight.
• Renewing listings weekly — confirmed to have zero ranking effect since 2024.
